Jobs are back with a bang.
Looks like hiring is back and companies have started hiring in full swing. CNN-IBN recently ran a program on this very subject. According to them at least 1 million jobs will be created this year. Wow!
According to Mr. Gopalakrishnan, CEO of Infosys “we are looking to hire around 20,000 freshers this year 2010″. He also thinks that the hiring spree has started.
ICICI bank has already hired 2000 people in the last 2 months and will be adding around 4000 by Q1 of 2011.
The recent hiring at IIMC and IIMB has really put hiring back on track, at least that’s what placement experts think. Even students of some of the non management colleges in Delhi have got offers that they have never seen so far. Definitely, this is a good sign and hope things improve in the coming months.
Looks like All Izz Well at least on the job front.

Make your walk-ins more efficient.
Now that the market has started picking up again, we are seeing quite a few walk-ins being advertised. While walk-ins are a great way of quickly acquiring talent, they also need to be well planned in order to be beneficial. I remember a walk-in during the heydays of the dotnet boom when over 2000 prospective candidates turned up. Obviously, very few of them could be interviewed and most of them ended up dropping their resumes into a cardboard box and leaving, entirely dejected.
If you are planning to have walk-ins in the near future, please read on.
For walk-ins to be successful, it is important to quickly segregate/classify candidates into Excellent fit, Good fit and Not fit and then spend more time interviewing and processing the first category rather than wasting time on the latter ones.
JobsByRef.com can help you run walk-ins that are efficient and result-oriented. So the next time you run a walk-in, do the following:
- Create a job posting on JobsByRef.com for each open position for which you have called for a walk-in.
- When you advertise the walk-in, request people to apply for the relevant posting before coming for the walk-in.
- Create an ideal candidate description for each of the job postings.
- As candidates apply, JobsByRef’s matching engine automatically sorts the candidates so that the best ones are at the top.
- When candidates come in, check their match score on JobsByRef.com and process them accordingly. So the ones that have the best match scores can be quickly taken through the interview process and given their appointment letters, the good ones can be made to take a test and the not so good ones can be asked to try their luck on a later date.

‘I know I am genuine, why should I get my own credentials verified?’, you may ask. But the fact remains that most employers are not able to differentiate the fakers from the genuine candidates from the resumes. By getting your credentials verified by a reputed organization, you are making it easier for the potential employer to tell which resumes are genuine and which are not, thereby making yourself more visible to the potential employer.
Not only do you improve the chances of organizations finding you, you also ensure that the fakers are stopped from cheating others!

Have you used any job aggregator sites yet?
We know that the job search activity can be a tedious one. Going from one job site to another, creating accounts on each one of them, applying and tracking your application, all of this can be time consuming and difficult to manage.
In this post, I thought I could share with you one facility that has come up in recent years that can make your job hunting a little easier. This facility is called a job aggregator. There are several quite popular ones including SimplyHired.com, indeed.com, Bixee.com and of course, JobsByRef.com [look at the "The Web" tab on your search results], to name a few.
What job aggregators do is that they collect all the jobs from across all the job sites and even career pages of companies and present them to you in a single place. So that you dont have to go from job site to job site to see all the openings available to you.
For those of you who have not used job aggregators before, I hope this article helps make your job hunt a little less cumbersome.
All the best.

Career fairs… - Seth Godin
Marketing guru Seth Godin has written a gem on Career Fairs, something that job seekers and career fair organizers should think about. Complete text of the article is reproduced here:
Career fairs…
are neither.
Of course they don’t exist to help you plan or execute a career. Most of the organizations with booths are bottom fishing, looking for enough willing and able employees to fill established gaps in their companies. This is hiring on the hoof, wholesale filling of average jobs with people trying to be average. Planning a career at a career fair is a little like looking for a soul-mate at a singles’ bar.
And fair? Hardly. Because there are no average people, right? There are average jobs, certainly, average in that they require people to fit in, do what they’re told and follow the manual. I’ll grant you that those jobs need to get done, but I’m not sure they have to get done by you.
By the time a job opening hits the career fair, it’s a job you don’t want. And by the time a job seeker is walking down the aisles, standardized resume in hand, it might be too late for her to find a job that’s worthy of her.
Here’s to a new, better sort of career fair, one that’s selective, interactive, long-term and both career and fair.
Something for all of us to think about and possibly put into action the suggestions he has articulated so nicely.
