Finding a good job during tough times

Given the tough market conditions, it is not surprising that getting a good job is not very easy. However, there are still companies out there searching for great employees. So, if you are looking at a career move, read on.

Bad news - Job openings are limited in today’s market condition

Companies are just coming out of a very rough period. While the economy has started to look up, companies are still licking their wounds and wary of recruiting in large numbers again. So, though the trends are heartening, it may yet take a few more months before companies start recruiting in earnest. This means that currently there are still not as many job openings as there used to be.

Good news - There are always openings for the good guys!

There are always openings for good candidates - even in bad times such as now. Look for openings published by direct employers. There are still many around. Remember, many of the openings are not getting advertised so much (advertising cost a lot and the ad budget is one of the first things that gets chopped in a bad economy). And it is not that all openings are getting filled. Every day, I hear companies lamenting the lack of good candidates. Which means they have not found you yet.

Solution - Utilize your network

The thing to do is to make sure you are aware of all the job openings that are available, whether advertised or not. The way to do that is to ask your network of connections if there are openings in their companies. Don’t think you have the network yet? Think again! If you have started building your credibility score on jobsbyref.com, you have already started building your network. After all, the people who enhance your credibility (your classmates, friends, and colleagues) are the ones who can spot the right openings for you. These networks will continue to work for you for the rest of your career, so start investing in your network now.

All the best.
