Reaching out to Recruitment Firms.
This week, I thought I would write about ways in which you can use recruitment firms, also called as placement agencies, to get great jobs.
Recruitment firms typically work with companies in sourcing candidates for open position. However, they do not usually work with individual candidates except at executive levels. Nevertheless, you can use them to help you land great jobs.
The first thing to do is to identify companies that you would love to work for. Once you know this, you can identify recruitment firms that are in the authorized vendor lists of these companies. This information is usually not readily available but with a little initiative, you can find the details. A quick scan of job advertisements in newspapers and job sites will get you at least an incomplete list of vendors for each of your companies.
Now you can approach these recruitment firms with specific requests, especially after you have spotted a job opportunity that fits you. As the recruitment firm earns a fee for placing you (anywhere from 1 months salary - 3 months salary, from the company), they will be more than happy to see if you meet the requirements of the job opening and take the necessary steps to speed-track you into the company.
